Frequently Asked Questions

How does a couture bouquet commission work?

Every commission begins with a private consultation about your wedding, your gown, your palette and the story you would like your bouquet to tell. Marie then develops a design concept, and silks, velvets, pearls, crystals, metal leaf and gemstones are selected and color-matched to your vision. Every petal and leaf is cut, shaped and assembled by hand in the studio, and the finished bouquet is carefully packed and shipped to you, wherever you are in the world. Commissions are by private enquiry.

How long does a commission take, and how far ahead should I book?

Commissions take on average 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the style, and more complicated designs need additional time. We recommend booking at least twelve weeks before your wedding, and earlier where possible, to allow time for consultation, design and handwork.

How much does a couture bridal bouquet cost?

Each commission is designed from the beginning for its bride, so the final investment reflects your choices of size, materials and complexity and is confirmed during your consultation. Pieces in the shop and in Past Commissions show their prices, which give a sense of the investment for a similar piece.

How long will a silk and pearl bouquet last?

Because it is made from silk, pearls, crystal, metal and gemstones rather than fresh flowers, your bouquet is designed to be kept and displayed for a lifetime. Each piece is made to be handed down as an heirloom, treasured for generations, as long as it is cared for as described below.

How do I care for my bouquet?

Keep your bouquet out of direct sunlight and away from moisture. Display and store it upright, ideally in a vase with a glass cloche or other protection from dust, so its shape is preserved for years to come.

Can my bouquet be reshaped or separated after the wedding?

Yes. Every bouquet can be reshaped after the wedding to display beautifully at home. Each flower is made on its own silk-covered stem, so most bouquets can also be gently separated into smaller arrangements, to keep a few blooms yourself and share the rest with family, perhaps one day with your children.

How are the flowers made?

Each silk petal and leaf is cut and pressed by hand with Victorian-era tools exclusive to the studio, guided by techniques Marie has refined over many years. The metal leaves are created using the antique Victorian-era molds. They are made the way couture flowers were made a century ago, which is why no Marie Livet piece can be found anywhere else.

What materials do you work with?

We work in hand-cut silk and silk velvet, gold and silver leaf, sterling silver, pearls and precious stones, with rare materials chosen for the pieces that call for them. Individual pieces also use materials such as carved mother of pearl, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystal, and each listing names its own materials.

Can you match my gown or wedding colors?

Yes. Color and material matching is part of every commission, and inspiration images are always welcome.

Can I commission a piece similar to one in Past Commissions?

Yes. Each piece in Past Commissions now lives in a private collection, and each may inspire a new bespoke design. Every piece has its own nature, so something similar can be made, but never the exact same piece twice. Choose Commission a similar piece, or begin a private enquiry and mention the piece you love.

Do you create pieces beyond bridal bouquets?

Yes. Alongside heirloom bouquets, the studio creates floral jewelry, silk scarves and pocket squares, headpieces, sashes, boutonnieres and display stems. The studio also accepts commissions for boutonnieres, hair combs, display stems and other floral pieces, so a whole bridal party can share one couture vision.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. The studio is based in Washington State and ships worldwide, including to brides in the United Arab Emirates. Orders shipped outside the United States are subject to additional shipping charges, and any duties and taxes due on delivery are the responsibility of the buyer.

How soon will a piece from the shop arrive?

Every piece lists its own lead time on its product page. Unless the listing says otherwise, pieces available now ship in 3 to 5 business days.

What is your returns and exchanges policy?

Because of the nature of what the studio creates, Marie Livet does not offer refunds. Exchanges are offered for the purchase price less shipping when requested within 7 days of receiving your piece, for items that are unworn, unused and in original condition and packaging. To request one, email marie@marielivet.com with your order information and a short note on the reason.

How do I begin a commission or contact the studio?

Complete the private enquiry form on the Commissions page with your date, location and any inspiration you would like to share, or write directly to marie@marielivet.com. Marie reads each enquiry herself and replies personally, and every message is answered within one business day.
